The students of Velammal Vidyalaya, Alapakkam took their pride and privilege on celebrating our regional festival of harvest, Pongal in the campus. It was an extraordinary day with a typical village Pongal celebration. The halls and reception were adorned with flowers and thoranam, sugarcane stacked to grace the occasion. As a traditional thanks-giving occasion to nature, Pongal was celebrated with joy in school with community members like parents, teachers, NGO and students. The Students exhibited joy and pride as they filled the campus with the land’s cultural aura. The Department of Tamil organized a plethora of programmes for the entertainment of the students.
The programme commenced with hearing of God’s word, followed by prayer and prayer song. A group of girls revived the festivity in a village with their colourful folk dance. The students participated in the drama competition and did a magnificent job to make laurels to the pongal celebrations. The emotional abilities and acting skill of students exhibited our true tradition and culture. Thereafter traditional games marked the pongal celebration in our school. Students participated enthusiastically in all activities to promote pongal festival among community. It gave an opportunity for the students to learn about culture & traditions. The Chief Guests of the day, Ms Amsaveni and Ms. Poornima were highly impressed by the performance of students, representing Tamil culture.
